What are Marathi Swar (स्वर म्हणजे काय?)

In Marathi and Devanagari grammar, स्वर (Swar - Vowels) are pure, independent sounds that can be pronounced naturally without the assistance of any other letter or obstruction in the vocal tract. When air flows freely from the lungs through the mouth without tongue-to-palate contact, a Swar is produced.

There are 15 recognized Swar in modern standard Marathi education (incorporating classical Sanskrit roots and modern adopted loan sounds).
